The Austin Scoober
February 2010
|
Winter League is coming to a close and what a great season it has been. From the novel gamers theme to the spirited parties to the delicious food to the intense ultimate. Hopefully we could get some good weather for the league tournament to cap it all off.
No league takes more volunteer work than Winter League. Volunteers make this league run! I would like to thank a few of the volunteers that have played a significant role in helping make Winter League 2010 so amazing.

No, Nathalie is here because in addition to all these qualities, she's just so darn nice. There aren't too many players whose spirit on and off the field makes as lasting as impression as Nat's.

Taking Care of Our Parks
by Terry Jungman
There is some concern among the Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) maintenance staff that the increased usage of our parks system by athletic sports teams may have detrimental effects on turfgrass growth and recovery. The intense pace and cutting involved in sports such as soccer and ultimate Frisbee is beginning to cause an unsustainable amount of damage, so preventative measures are being implemented to promote park use in the long-term.

Press Start To Play
This year's Winter League has been yet another rip-roaring success under the leadership of recent Austin transplant Paul Hanna. Players from many Austin ultimate pockets have come out of hibernation to play in the blistering Austin winters (well, it's all relative). What could make our players face down the threat of frostbite more than the opportunity to heckle our close friends during the showcase game while bonding over delicious food and drink?
