A few big updates in ultimate.
Great news came out of the recent Club Regionals announcement. Austin was selected to host for 2010 and the dates have been set for Oct 2-3rd. Thats right. This year we can all go to ACL fest.
UPA is now USA Ultimate. Finally a name where non-frisbee players will know what sport the organization is about. They revamped their website to be more dynamic and have ultimate news from around the US. Check it out at www.usaultimate.org

Launch Sequence

Rayne on a Sunny Day: Middle School Tournament

The rain held off for the middle school play-off tournament several weeks ago. But no one could hold off Rayne. Murchison 8th grader Rayne Frazee, that is.
On May 22nd, six local middle schools gathered at Murchison (better known as the school with the big hill) for an end-of-season play-off tournament. The teams were split into A and B divisions, altogether tallying ten different rosters from Kealing, Lamar, Murchison, O. Henry, Robinson and St. Francis. The fields were packed and the energy was high as play began first thing in the morning on the warm spring day.

Texas Shootout Open Division Recap

The UT intramural fields hosted a showcase of world-class Ultimate last month for the annual Texas Shootout. Austins Doublewide, fifth in last year's UPA national championships, hosted 09 runner up Revolver (SF Bay area), '09 #3 Sockeye (Seattle), UK powerhouse Clapham, and local stud teams Seuss (Austin) and Super Club (Houston). The open division brought together perhaps the strongest field in the tournaments history. With the World Ultimate and Guts Championship in July, three of the top US teams and one of Britains best gathered to use Shootout as a final tune-up before traveling to Prague.

Texas Shootout Women's Division Recap
The third year of Women's Shootout was a big success. Though weather around Austin was grim, the Intramural fields were open. This year the tournament served as pre-Worlds practice bringing Riot, Fury, Zeigest and the home team, Showdown. Each team practiced the WUCC rules which slightly vary from 11th edition.
