With the weather forecast looking binary (highs of 101,100,101... ha ha ok bad engineering joke), the only way to escape the heat is sometime after dark. Luckily, summer league is starting up soon at a cooler time of 7pm on Thursdays (look for signups late next week). Has deciding which one of your friends to choose as your only baggage kept you up at night? The new and improved summer league will solve that problem. Iram "J" Leon Returns as TD
For the first time since have brain surgery, J Leon makes his illustrious return to Tournament Directing in this coming Sunday's Fast & Furious 4-on-4 Ultimate tournament. A virtual tour-de-force in Austin Ultimate prior to his brain cancer diagnosis last year, J Leon is now ready for his comeback. Running a tournament requires a lot of mental focus and agility. Let's see if he's still got it.

Wave Action
After a recent pick-up game, a few of Austin's more prominent organizer-types were sitting on the Zilker Park grass under the cool shade of a tree and discussing the upcoming Summer League. We should do this and we should do that, yadda-yadda-yo; a lot of cool ideas were getting thrown around. And even though Summer League has been an Austin mainstay for over two decades, for this group of organizers the dialogue was fresh and engaging.

Most of my experience being a captain comes from women's teams (2 yrs Melee and 2 yrs Showdown), but I have also been a captain in some coed leagues. And I've had the benefit of playing for many great captains.
