The Austin Scoober
May 2011

I'll be the first to admit that offense is not my #1 strength- I'm more of a defensive player. That's precisely why I think about offense so much; because it's an area for me to improve. These are some ideas I have put together for myself and the kids I coach in order to help us all become better at playing man offense.

Competitive Summer League Announcement
by Paul Hanna, UPLA League Coordinator
Sign-up will be open next week (we think, Wednesday 5/18) for this ballers-to-the-wall Ringer-fest. Get your speed holes ready, folks! 'Cause this league is going to be fast!
In case you are unfamiliar with CSL, it's a special league for special freaky people. Yeah, freaky because they have athletic prowess and mad Ultimate skills that put their game on a plain barely recognizable to the average Ultimate player. For these freaks, it gets harder and harder to find intensely competitive Ultimate....until now. CSL was created specifically to challenge the best-from-among-the-good to cut even harder, jump even higher, and throw even better.

The Rhythm of Ultimate
by Jean Gaetan
Ultimate has its own rhythm. And, generally speaking, it's fast. At the sport's highest levels, the disc flies around the field like a winged pinball in an old arcade machine. Pick-up games have their own unique rhythm, too - but almost always significantly more random and slower. New players are told "don't rush it," "chill," "you've got 10 seconds." But as you develop as a player, you'll notice how "rushing it" can actually give you a distinct advantage.
